Initiating with Confidence

$120.00

Class Size: 8

Pre-requisites: Some improv experience required

Class Sessions: Tuesdays, Noon-2:00 pm (February 3,10, 17, 24) at the WE Space on Franklin

Improv at its best is fun and silly, when we lose ourselves in the moment and are able to connect with our scene partners in shared joy. But that joy can be hard to access when we feel unequipped to succeed or frozen with self-judgment as we try to find the “right” initiation. In this course, we will explore methods to make initiating premise-based scenes less scary and more fun with tools for easier communication with your scene partner, premise-pulling best practices, and initiation types. We will work on devoloping confidence and control, resulting in initiations that feel like invitations for your scene partner’s creativity instead of tests to be passed. In this class you will initiate from monologues for first and second beats with skills that can be helpful for Harold auditions and premise-based scenework.

Ben Cassil (he/him) is an improv instructor and comedian. He has been improvising for 12 years, with training from WE Improv and UCB, and performs with the WE house team Cosmo, the movie team Hot Set, and the indie team The Headliners. Check out his podcast, Live From The Big Apple.
