Pre-reqs: Some improv experience required

Class Sessions: Fridays, 4:00-6:00 pm at the WE Space (2/28, 3/7, 3/21, 3/28 NO CLASS 3/14)

Shows: 2 Shows Included: Friday 3/7 and 3/28, 6:00 pm at the WE Space.

Improv at its best is fun and silly, when we lose ourselves in the moment and are able to connect with our scene partners in shared joy. But that joy can be hard to access when we feel unequipped to succeed or frozen with self-judgment as we try to find the “right” initiation. In this course, we will explore methods to make initiating premise-based scenes less scary and more fun with tools for easier communication with your scene partner and options for types of initiations. As you try out these types, you will grow in your confidence and control, resulting in initiations that feel like invitations for your scene partner’s creativity instead of tests to be passed. We will cover initiation best practices, how to remember premises, BURL, and 4 types of premise initiations.

Ben Cassil (he/him) is an improv instructor, coach, and comedian. He has been improvising for  11 years, with training from WE Improv and UCB, and performs weekly with the WE house team Cosmo. He is the co-host of the podcasts Totally Rad and Live From The Big Apple.
