Humor Writing Class
Dip your toe into short form humor writing! Got an idea that’s not quite a tweet or a sketch or a pilot? Using the workshop method, students will learn how to expand on a topic and create a premise. We’ll delve into different forms of humor writing, editing and punching up drafts, and learning to tailor your unique voice to specific publications. You’ll get feedback from fellow classmates AND Katie herself, someone who has been paid to write! By the end of the class, students will have an 800-word humor piece that’s ready to pitch and the confidence to write more in the future.
Goals:
- Develop an understanding of what makes a good humor piece work
- Learn how to collaborate creatively
- Understand the writing workshop process
- Learn how to effectively edit short form writing
- Write one humor piece that the student is proud of
Pre-requisites: Simply a desire to write
Instructor: Katie Barsotti
Workshops: Saturdays 10:00am-11:30am PST ONLINE (Feb 8, 15, 22, March 1, 8)
