Improv 4 Kidz
This 6 week class is designed to create a safe space for imaginative play, help your child get out of their shell, to make new friends and hone their sense of humor. But most importantly this class is designed to encourage your child to be silly, loud and to take up as much space as they need!
We will be focusing on learning short form improv through the lens of character and building your environment. Each child will have many, many opportunities to explore characters; different voices, movement, facial expressions and POV that is not of their own. Students will also learn how to build a scene by building the world and using their environment to help expand their scenes. At the end of the 6 weeks there will be a class show, where all parents and friends are invited to come watch the class perform a short form improv set using the techniques and characters they learned in class!
This class is designed to be able to retake over, and over, and over again!
CLASS SCHEDULE:
Saturday 9-11am 7-10 year olds (Class max 10) - (Feb 21, 28, March 7, 14, 21, 28)
Sunday 9-11am 11-14 year olds (Class max 10-12) - (Feb 22, March 1, 8, 15, 22, 29)
SHOW:
March 29th at 5pm
INSTRUCTOR: Paige Klone
CLASS ONE: What is IMPROV?
Students will learn the basics of Improv, as well as stage presence and rules. We will go over things such as, Yes, and! Listening and responding, no negating, no questions. We will also go over what is the back line, facing the audience, using the space and being respectful while others perform
CLASS TWO: What is a CHARACTER?
We will start the class by using the space to explore our movements and voice and build characters in a safe place. We will then move to two person scenes where we focus just on character, building backstories, dialect and POV. Our main focus will be finding the POV of each character.
CLASS THREE: What is SPACE WORK?
We will learn how to use the space on stage and build the scene by building the environment and creating specifics within the environment. We will focus mostly on scene painting, to build the world the performers are in and creating ways to work and move within that space.
CLASS FOUR and FIVE: What is SHORT FORM IMPROV?
The next 2 classes will be focusing on short form GAMES. Both classes I will bring a variety of short form games that I think the class will enjoy. By the end of class five, the students will vote on 3-4 short form games that we will play at our class show!
CLASS SIX: It’s showtime, baby!
Class six will be dedicated to running the short form games that we will be playing at the class show. Each student will get a chance to get up on their feet and play each game at least once!
